OnVue is an alternative option for test-takers to take the NREMT cognitive exam from your home or office, instead of an in-person testing center. This exam is still proctored through PearsonVue. The change to expand to online proctoring was primarily decided with the limited test center availability due to COVID-19. At this time, only EMT and AEMT candidates are able to take the NREMT cognitive exam through OnVue.
To apply for an OnVue test, you still need your ATT (Application to Test), be notified of your eligibility to test, and pay the authorization fee to the National Registry.
Before you begin your exam you must pass the check-in steps, which include:
- Testing your microphone, webcam, and audio
- Capture a headshot
- Capture your photo ID
- Capture four photos of the testing room workspace
- Shut down other applications running on the computer
This exam will still be proctored by a PearsonVue test administrator. It is highly recommended that you go through the OnVue system check and go over the system requirements before you even sign up for the cognitive exam.
This option isn't for everybody, if you are in a noisy environment, have a poor internet connection, or don't have access to a webcam, this is not an option for you and you will still need to schedule an exam in person.
