What is the dose for Amiodarone, how does it work in the body, and what is it used for?

Show Answer Hide Answer

The dose of Amiodarone for V Tach with a pulse is 150mg IV over 10 minutes, you make this solution by mixing the 150mg in 100ml of NS. The dose of Amiodarone for V Tach and V Fib during cardiac arrest is 300mg IV followed by a repeat dose of 150 mg in 3-5 minutes if still present. Amiodarone works by increasing the refractory period of the SA and AV nodes, ventricles, bundle of His, and the Purkinje fibers.

What is the dose of Epinephrine, how does it work in the body, and what is it used for?

Show Answer Hide Answer

The dose of Epinephrine in cardiac arrest in 1 mg of 1:10,000 every 3-5 minutes. The dose of an Epinephrine drip is 2-10 mcg/min for bradycardia and 0.1-0.5 mcg/kg/min for hypotension after a cardiac arrest. Epinephrine works by binding to alpha 1 and beta 1 receptors to increase the positive ionotropic and chronotropic actions of the heart and increase vasoconstriction.

What is the dose of Atropine, how does it work in the body, and what is it used for?

Show Answer Hide Answer

Atropine is used to increase heart rate in patients that are bradycardic, The dose of Atropine is 0.5 mg IV every 3-5 minutes to a maximum dose of 3 mg. Atropine works by binding to the muscarinic acetylcholine receptors to block the actions of the parasympathetic nervous system.

What is the dose of Adenosine, how does it work in the body, and what is it used for?

Show Answer Hide Answer

Adenosine is used to lower heart rate caused by SVT. The dose of Adenosine is 6 mg IV rapid push and a repeat of 12 mg IV rapid push if unsuccessful. Adenosine works by causing a temporary heart block in the AV node to decrease heart rate.

What is the dose of Diltiazem, how does it work in the body, and what is it used for?

Show Answer Hide Answer

Diltiazem is used to lower heart rate that is caused by A Fib or A Flutter. The dose of Diltiazem is 0.25 mg/kg initially with a 0.35 mg/kg repeat dose if unsuccessful. Diltiazem works by depressing AV node conduction and is a calcium channel blocker.

What is the dose of Dopamine, how does it work in the body, and what is it used for?

Show Answer Hide Answer

Dopamine is used to increase heart rate or blood pressure if the patient is diffusely vasodilated such as after a cardiac arrest. The dose of Dopamine is 5-20 mcg/kg/min. Dopamine works by binding to alpha 1 and beta 1 receptors to increase vasoconstriction and increase the positive ionotropic and chronotropic actions of the heart.

What it the range of joules used for cardioversion/defibrillation in A Fib, A Flutter, SVT, V Tach, and V Fib?

Show Answer Hide Answer

The joules for cardioversion of A Fib is 120-200, A Flutter is 50-100, SVT is 50-100, V Tach is 100-200, and for V Fib it is defibrillation at 200.

What are the H’s and T’s to consider during cardiac arrest?

Show Answer Hide Answer

The H’s are Hypoxia, Hypovolemia, Hydrogen Ions, Hypo/Hyperkalemia, and Hypothermia. The T’s are Toxins, Tension Pneumothorax, Coronary Thrombos, Coronary Thrombus, and Cardiac Tamponade.

What is the compression to ventilation ratio for 1 person vs 2 person CPR?

Show Answer Hide Answer

The compression to ventilation ratio for 1 person CPR is 30:2 and for 2 person CPR is 30:2.

What should the depth and rate of compressions be during CPR?

Show Answer Hide Answer

The depth of compressions should be 2.5 inches and at a rate of 100-120.
