West Virginia EMS Exams Information
West Virginia EMR Exams
To become an EMR in West Virginia, you must successfully complete either the written practical examination of either the National Registry or the State Initial Examination. Testing for the National Registry exam is performed by Pearson VUE, sign up on the National Registry website to find a testing center near you. If you choose to take the State Initial Exam, your EMR program will provide you with that information.

Requirements for West Virginia EMS Certification
EMR - Emergency Medical Responder
To become an EMR in West Virginia you must: Successfully complete an EMR 72 hour course, pass the National Registry exam OR the state Initial Exam, create a continuum account (on the WV OEMS website), submit an application, pass a background check, and submit a copy of your CPR card.

EMT - Emergency Medical Technician
To become an EMT in West Virginia you must: Successfully complete an EMT 150 hour course, create a continuum account (on the WV OEMS website), submit an application, pass a background check, submit a copy of your CPR card, and pass the National Registry exam OR the state Initial Exam.

AEMT - Advanced Emergency Medical Technician
To become an Advanced Care Technician in West Virginia you must: Successfully complete an ACT program, create a continuum account (on the WV OEMS website), submit an application, have a current EMT license, pass a background check, submit a copy of your CPR card, successfully pass the National Registry, and pass the required skill set for the ACT.

EMT-P - Paramedic
