North Carolina EMS Exams Information

North Carolina EMR Exams

For North Carolina EMR licenses, you need to complete a state exam. Successful completion of this examination is required to apply for a North Carolina EMS license. Successful completion of initial provider courses allows a student to be eligible to test with the NC State Office. Individuals possessing an active and valid NREMT or other states EMS credential may apply for legal recognition as long as they meet the requirements set forth in rule. The scope of practice evaluation will be completed within 1 year prior to the examination. You are able to attempt the examination 3 times within 9 months, this shall be from the graded date as reflected in the NCOEMS Credentialing Database. As of July 1, 2021, If you fail to pass in those 3 attempts you complete the EMR program again.

Requirements for North Carolina EMS Certification

EMR - Emergency Medical Responder

In order to be credentialed by the OEMS as an EMR the individual shall be at least 18 years old, complete an approved educational program, complete a scope of practice performance evaluation that uses performance measures based on the cognitive, psychomotor, and effective educational objectives, within 90 days from the course graded date to complete a written exam administered by the state, and submit a criminal background history check.
