New York EMS Exams Information

New York EMR Exams

New York offers a Written Certification Exam for EMR licensure. In order to schedule your exam, you must submit a 'Registration for Emergency Medical Technicians' exam test request. Within 2-3 weeks you will receive a confirmation letter, directions to the testing site, and a student exam ticket.

Requirements for New York EMS Certification

EMR - Emergency Medical Responder

To become an EMR in New York you must complete an EMR program, and successfully pass the written exam.

EMT - Emergency Medical Technician

To become an EMT in New York you must complete an EMT program, and successfully pass the written exam. EMTs learn how to: perform Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), administer oxygen, administer glucose to diabetic patients, help people who are having asthma attacks or allergic reactions, and remove patients and prepare them for transport to the hospital.

AEMT - Advanced Emergency Medical Technician

New York does not offer AEMT licenses.

EMT-P - Paramedic

To become a Paramedic in New York you must complete a Paramedic program, and successfully pass the written exam. Paramedics learn how to: administer medications, start intravenous (IV) lines, provide advanced airway management for patients, resuscitate patients, and help people who have suffered trauma.
