Requirements for Kentucky EMS Certification

EMR - Emergency Medical Responder

To become an EMR in the state of Kentucky you must: Create an account in the Kentucky Emergency Medical Services Information System (KEMSIS); Complete CPR certification; Completion of Kentucky Cabinet for Health Services HIV/AIDS Course; Proof of age 16 or greater (Birth Certificate, State Issued Photo ID, Driver's License, etc); Must NOT have been found guilty of, entered a guilty plea, or Alford plea to a felony offense or have completed a diversion program for a felony offense; Must NOT have been subjected to discipline that would prevent certification at the time of application; High School Diploma, General Education Development (GED), or Transcripts with graduation date if less than 18 years old or verification that student is enrolled in high school with a Grade Point Average (GPA) greater than 2.0; Background Check less than 6 months old (Initial Kentucky certification or licensure requires a background check from CastleBranch); $25.00 in Fees ($15.00 Certification Fee + $10.00 Application Fee); and have current National Registry Certification

EMT - Emergency Medical Technician

To become an EMT in the state of Kentucky you must: Create an Account on the Kentucky Emergency Medical Services Information System (KEMSIS); Have Current CPR certification; Completion of a CHFS approved HIV/AIDS Course; Must NOT have been found guilty of, entered a guilty plea, or Alford plea to a felony offense or have completed a diversion program for a felony offense; Must NOT have been subjected to discipline that would prevent certification at the time of application; Motor Vehicle Operators License (Driver's License) or Learners Permit for a US State or Territory; High School Diploma / General Education Development (GED); Background Check less than 6 months old (Initial Kentucky certification or licensure requires a background check from CastleBranch); $40.00 Fee ($30.00 Certification Fee + $10.00 Application Fee), and have current National Registry Certification

AEMT - Advanced Emergency Medical Technician

To become an AEMT in the state of Kentucky you must:  Have EMT-Basic certification as a prerequisite for the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician course.

All AEMT Applicants must submit the following items: Must NOT have been found guilty of, entered a guilty plea, or Alford plea to a felony offense or have completed a diversion program for a felony offense; Must NOT have been subjected to discipline that would prevent certification at the time of application; Background Check less than 6 months old at eligibility for certification (Initial Kentucky certification or licensure requires a background check from CastleBranch); High School Diploma / General Education Development (GED); Create an Account on the Kentucky Emergency Medical Services Information System (KEMSIS); Current CPR certification; Completion of a Cabinet for Health and Family Services approved HIV/AIDS Course; Complete Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma course endorsed by the state of Kentucky; $60.00 Fee ($50.00 Certification Fee + $10.00 Application Fee); and have current National Registry Certification for the AEMT Level

EMT-P - Paramedic

To become a Paramedic in the state of Kentucky you must: Create an account in the Kentucky Emergency Medical Services Information System (KEMSIS); Have Current CPR certification; Completion of CHFS approved HIV/AIDS Course; Must NOT have been found guilty of, entered a guilty plea, or Alford plea to a felony offense or have completed a diversion program or a felony offense; Must NOT have been subjected to discipline that would prevent certification at teh time of application; Motor Vehicles Operators License (Driver's License) for a US State or Territory; High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED); Must be 18 years of age or older; Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification Background Check less than 6 months old from CastleBranch; Kentucky EMT-B Certification or National Registry EMT Certification; Determination of Death Certification; Paramedic Course Completion Form; $75.00 Fee ($65.00 Licensure Fee + $10.00 Application Fee); and have current National Registry Certification
