Requirements for Arizona EMS Certification

EMR - Emergency Medical Responder

Arizona does not offer EMR licenses. 

EMT - Emergency Medical Technician

To become an EMT you must be at least 18 years of age; Successful completion of EMT training from a state-approved training center or institute; Successful completion of a state-approved CPR training; Pass the NREMT examination; Provide citizenship or evidence of lawful presence in U.S.A.; Undergo a background check.

AEMT - Advanced Emergency Medical Technician

An individual may be eligible to enter an Advanced EMT program after completing EMT training. An AEMT program will be at least 244 hours, and out of those 244 hours, at least 100 hours will consist of instruction and skills training; at least 144 hours will consist of clinical and field experience. AEMTs are required to be knowledgable on IV and medication administration.

EMT-P - Paramedic

To enter a paramedic program in Arizona, a student is required to have an EMT level license or higher. The paramedic program must be at least 1,000 hours.
